A Las Vegas Wedding Weekend: Love, Family, and What Really Matters
Las Vegas has a way of amplifying everything—the lights, the energy, the expectations. But at the end of October, we traveled there for something far simpler and far more important: family.
My nephew was getting married, and once that was the reason for the trip, everything else fell into perspective. What followed wasn’t a flawless getaway, but it was meaningful—rooted in connection, celebration, and showing up for the moments that mattered most.
Trip at a Glance
Destination: Las Vegas, Nevada
Dates: October 31 – November 4, 2024
Purpose: Nephew’s wedding
Lodging: Large Vrbo vacation rental (not recommended)
The Reality of the Vrbo (An Honest Note)
I believe in honest travel stories, especially when it comes to accommodations.
The Vrbo we stayed in looked promising online—large and advertised as “luxury.” Unfortunately, the reality didn’t match the listing. The house was poorly maintained and uncomfortable, nothing like the photos. It wasn’t a place that felt relaxing at the end of long days.
Would I stay there again? No.
Would I recommend it? Also no.
Still, this trip wasn’t about the house. We were there for family, and keeping that perspective made everything else fall into place.
Lesson learned: comfort, cleanliness, and reliability matter more than size or labels—especially when traveling for important events.
The Rehearsal Gathering: Where the Weekend Began (November 1)
The weekend truly began on November 1 with the rehearsal gathering at BLVD Burger.
BLVD Burger
It wasn’t formal or overproduced—just family and close friends coming together before the big day. Conversations overlapped, laughter came easily, and there was that familiar feeling of reconnecting with people you don’t see often enough, but never feel distant from.
Before the ceremony and before the emotions of the wedding day, this gathering grounded the weekend and set the tone for everything that followed.
The Wedding: The Heart of the Trip (November 2)
The wedding took place on November 2 at Mon Bel Ami, and it was the undeniable heart of the weekend.
Mon Del Ami
It was joyful, emotional, and full of genuine connection. Watching my nephew and his bride celebrate their day, surrounded by family and friends, was a reminder of why we travel for moments like this.
No matter the destination or the challenges along the way, love has a way of grounding everything.
The Wedding Reception & Dance (November 2)
The celebration continued at Forge Social House, where the energy shifted into something lighter and joyful.
Forge Social House
Music filled the space, people moved freely, and the formality of the day gave way to laughter and playfulness. One of my favorite moments of the entire weekend came during the reception—watching my granddaughter confidently step onto the dance floor, completely herself.
She didn’t just attend the wedding—she was fully part of it. Moments like that are the ones that linger long after the music fades.
Vegas Between the Big Moments
Not every moment of the weekend was about the ceremony itself. Some of the most memorable parts happened in between—quiet meals, casual conversations, and pauses where nothing was scheduled.
Vegas stayed mostly in the background for us. This wasn’t a Strip-heavy trip. It was slower, more grounded, and centered on being together. And honestly, that’s my favorite way to experience any destination.
A Stop That Felt Like Home: Blue Ox Tavern (November 3)
The day after the wedding, on November 3, we stopped at Blue Ox Tavern.
My entire family are die-hard Minnesota Vikings fans, so walking into a Vikings bar in Las Vegas felt a little like finding home in the desert. It wasn’t about the score—it was about being together, decompressing, and leaning into a shared tradition.
After an emotional wedding weekend, it was the perfect way to slow things down and just enjoy being us.
Family, Laughter, and the Unscripted Moments
Some of the best memories from this trip came from moments you can’t plan—unexpected laughter, playful energy, and the simple joy of being together.
Those unscripted moments are the reason imperfect trips still matter.
Departure Day: Yard House & Heading Home (November 4)
By November 4, it was time to head home. Before the airport, we shared one last meal together at Yard House.
Yard House
Comfortable clothes, tired smiles, and one final pause before everyone scattered back to real life. It was simple, calm, and exactly the right ending to a full, emotional weekend.
We came for a wedding.
We stayed for the people.
And we left with memories that mattered far more than the details.
Final Thoughts
This Las Vegas wedding weekend wasn’t about the city.
It wasn’t about the stay.
It was about showing up.
For family.
For love.
For moments that matter more than logistics.
And that’s the kind of travel I’ll always say yes to.
