Little Wins and Christmas Trees in Pierre, South Dakota

Some days don’t need much planning to become unforgettable.
They simply unfold — one small moment at a time.

Yesterday was one of those days.

A First Basket

The day began at a basketball game. Logan made her first basket during the game, and the smile on her face said everything. It was one of those little wins that feels big — the kind you don’t rush past, because you know it matters.

Breakfast on the Road

After the game, we stopped for McDonald’s breakfast. Nothing fancy. Just warm food, laughter, and the simple joy of being together as we headed out for the day.

Christmas Trees and Quiet History

We drove to Pierre to see the Christmas trees at the State Capitol. Walking through the building, we admired the decorations and took our time, soaking in the holiday feeling.

We also searched for the blue tiles in the flooring — added years ago by an Italian tile layer. It’s a small detail, easy to miss, but one that tells a story. Those quiet pieces of history always feel special when you notice them together.

Honoring Service

Later, we attended a military retirement celebration for 24 years of service. Moments like that give you pause — reminders of commitment, sacrifice, and the people who give so much of themselves over time.

Heading Home

By the end of the day, we were tired and content as we drove home.
No rush. No checklist. Just full hearts.

A Perfect Day

It wasn’t a grand trip or a big production.
It was basketball, breakfast, Christmas trees, honoring service, and coming home.

Sometimes, that’s exactly what makes a day perfect.
